In March 2017, Autodesk recommended users of the soon-to-be-retired 123D Sculpt migrate to Tinkercad (or Maya LT). In May 2013, Autodesk announced at a Maker Faire that they would acquire Tinkercad. By 2012, over 100,000 3D designs had been published by users. In 2011, the website was launched as a web-based 3D modeling tool for WebGL-enabled browsers, and in 2012 the company moved its headquarters to San Francisco. Tinkercad was founded by former Google engineer Kai Backman and his cofounder Mikko Mononen, with a goal to make 3D modeling, especially the design of physical items, accessible to the general public, and allow users to publish their designs under a Creative Commons license. Currently she is working as an 8th grade science teacher and 49ers STEM Leadership Institute Teacher at Cabrillo Middle School in Santa Clara, CA. Upon returning to the United States, Michelle taught middle school science at Valley Christian Junior High and served as the Applied Math, Science, and Engineering program coordinator. To increase her global awareness and empathy for students, she moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to engage in non-profit work and taught English in Thai schools and middle school science at Grace International School. She spent her first nine years teaching Integrated Science and Biology, serving as Science Department Chair, and Library Technology Teacher at Homestead High School in Cupertino, CA. Michelle Scilingo has enjoyed teaching secondary science since 1999.
